I want my percussion sounds for the soundtrack to sound similar to this Four Tet track because it uses metal and shimmery sounds in with the drums like there are lots of metal shakers or percussive instruments being used, and this will represent the metal components in the visual hitting together and will also provide a constant rhythm and feeling of forward momentum which the advert needs because the parts in the visual get larger approaching the end. These sounds are present about 25 seconds into this track.
I want a sort of gritty, pulsing synth sound that moves rhythmically along side the parts hitting each other but not necessarily synchronised to anything, again emphasising the movement of the advert. Something similar to the synth in this LCD Soundsystem track. As the sounds in this track sound techy due to their use of synthesisers and abrasive sounding percussion it lends itself to the theme of technology and the sounds sound similar to metal clinks and sharp percussive noises. This sound appears straight away in this track.
Another element of the soundtrack I wanted to make was a glitchy futuristic layering of sounds and beats, both percussive and tonal and melodic that sound jarring and mechanical, counjouring images of mechanisms and technology in your head. These sounds can be diverse and melodic, and can be fast or slow tempo and still be effective in this way. Here's an example of a track Actress, which has lots of tonal and low bass chops seemingly randomly arranged but causing a sort of mechanical constant groove that I think would sound good for this video. This can be heard straight away in this track.
Finally the other influence I wanted to harness for my soundtracking was a softer, more commercially friendly style of music and instrumentation like in lounge jazz or bossa nova. This is more palatable for the general public than the harsher tones of the abstract music, and is suitable to the style of advert also. I will represent this influence using keyboards like a rhodes, similar to in this Marcos Valle track.
